Postdoctoral Researcher (m/w/d) - coastal carbon cycling, marine Carbon Dioxide Removal
Referenzcode: 988
Arbeitsort: Geesthacht
Bewerbungsfrist: 27.04.2026
We seek a postdoc with interest in coastal carbon cycling, marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR), and its Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV). Within the Horizon Europe project MAR-CO2, this postdoc will focus on direct measurements of air–sea exchange in the context of pilot-scale mCDR interventions and explore the role of equilibration timescales in MRV. They will characterize the effect of air-sea exchanges on carbonate system perturbations and how they evolve, dilute, and dissipate in dynamic coastal environments. Although the primary observational tool will be atmospheric Eddy Covariance, the researcher will be embedded in a well‑equipped and well‑staffed laboratory environment and will work with a diverse suite of platforms—including profiling buoys, benthic landers, autonomous sensors, and ship‑based sampling. The postdoc will collaborate closely with modelers to integrate observations into predictive tools, and with social scientists to help place MRV findings within broader governance and stakeholder contexts.
This position is limited to 4 years and starts as soon as possible. In principle, the full time position (39 h/week) is also sharable.
Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position.
